Violent thunderstorms yesterday afternoon/eening - good job was at home & not riding!!
This morning was foggy. It's been very humid the last few days - oppressive even - and yesterday's storms and today's fog hasn't changed anything. So I had a warm ride up the hill this morning and a chillier descent, moisture accumulated on bare arms and legs.
Because the summer holidays are now in full swing there's much less traffic on the roads but, of course, that means the traffic that there is travels that bit faster ...
I replaced a rear tyre a few weeks ago, for a semi-worn one(!), I remember when it was on before it made a strange noise (it's a Panaracer Pasela) I think it may be the cover is separating from the carcass of the tyre.
The ride in on Monday was OK, England had beaten the W.Indies in the test on SUnday so it didn't go into the fifth day and there was no congestion to deal with. However I was reminded of the danger of the road outside the cricket ground today. The Rea Valley cycle route (National Route No. 5) exits Cannon Hill Park and crosses the main road via a Toucan crossing (request traffic light controlled crossing that pedestrians also use). This morning, I had pressed the button, the lights had changed to red, one car had stopped, I was about to cross and a car came down the road at between 30 and 40mph and crossed the lights without any change in his speed. OK it wasn't so close that I was in danger of being hit but it was still unnerving - not to mention illegal!
It's already rained again this afternoon, hopefully I'll get home in the dry but, somehow, I doubt it!
